A 77-year-old man presented for cataract surgery.
The anesthesiologist performed a peribulbar block.
Upon bringing the patient in the room and examining the eye under a microscope there was a problem.

The ophtho got him in to see a retina specialist that same day.

The patient had suffered a retinal detachment and went on to lose vision in that eye.
He sued the anesthesiologist, anesthesia group, ophthalmologist, ophthalmology group, and surgery center.
An anesthesiology expert was hired by the plaintiff.

The anesthesiology group was actually a sole proprietorship consisting of only this anesthesiologist.
This sole proprietorship no longer existed, and the anesthesiologist no longer even worked at this facility.
Unfortunately, he did not purchase tail insurance.
